The Daily Dig
Greetings All!
It's that time of year again: the annual Corwin Street Community Garden work day is just a few days off. It is scheduled for Saturday, December 5th from 9 AM to 1 PM. Click main image for additional photos of the garden. We will be doing the usual assortment of tasks: Planting, Pruning, Mulching and Weeding. I have ordered 263 new plants from the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, and we're hoping to get all of them in the ground. That's where you come in! Won't you please consider joining the effort this year?
Additionally, we are starting to plant some fruit trees in the lowest slope area. We have 7 assorted citrus trees in large containers that were donated to initiate this undertaking. This is a very exciting project and one that you will be able to reap the rewards of: FRESH FRUIT!! Please wear closed toed shoes, long pants and dress in layers. Tools, gloves and refreshments will be provided. So that I can get an estimate of how many will attend, an RSVP is appreciated.
Thanks and I look forward to seeing you on Saturday December 5th!
Sincerely, Bill Murphy

The Corwin Street Community Garden is a volunteer effort supported by the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department. Now in it's 15th year, it features approximately 80 species of California native and drought-adapted plants on about ¼ acre of steep hillside, and is just a short walk from the Castro and Noe Valley neighborhoods. The intimate setting supports a diverse population of invertebrates and birds, and relaxing areas to sit and enjoy the views near and far. The garden won recognition from San Francisco Beautiful (2003), the City of San Francisco (2001) and the California State Assembly (2003). Featured in Alex Hatch's 2008 book, "Cracks in the Asphalt", it is the only Community Garden of it's kind in San Francisco. As a "Habitat Garden" in provides ecological connectivity through backyards on Corwin Street to the Kite Hill Open Space. Tax deductible contributions are greatly appreciated and may be made to the garden c/o our fiscal agent, the San Francisco Park Trust .
