The Daily Dig
While rummaging through the paintings bin at my local thrift store, I noticed a vast array of still life's from the 50's and 60's. Even though I was looking for landscapes, I was drawn to there quirky nature and sometimes strange choices of objects used alongside the flora and fauna that embellished their canvas. I might have left the store empty handed but had a great idea to take home with me. The Real Life Still Life! I thought it would be great to take the elements and compositions of a still life and instead of painting them, create a beautiful work of art to simply enjoy in the present.

I love fresh flowers in my home and was gifted a plethora of flowers from my friend Brad a floral designer. I found six locations in my home that would make good back drops and started on my trek for interesting vessels and colorful objects. I kept in mind what would be in it and what it would be next to. I also thought about color, texture, height and scale. Each still life took me less than fifteen minutes to create and has given me weeks of enjoyment.
Next time you find yourself making a flower arrangement, take a few extra minutes and create a masterpiece!

Wow! So beautiful and very inspirational. We hauled out an old dry chistmas tree and brought in some fresh flowers. I think I'll make a masterpiece too.
